Workshop 1 - Robotics in Industrial Settings

Instructors: Jorge S. S. Júnior and Amanda Pina Amorim.

Description:

In this workshop, you will learn how robotics can be integrated into industrial settings. The location chosen to give you an insight into this is the UC Factory Lab, which aims to provide hands-on learning in an environment that replicates real industrial conditions. First, you will be given an overview of the Laboratory’s three main areas: Robotics, Virtual Control and Augmented Reality, and Production Cells and Intralogistics. Next, you will take part in a short practical session on how to programme Universal Robots’ collaborative robotic arms.

Location: UC Factory Lab, DEQ, R. Luís Reis dos Santos, 3030-790 Coimbra.
Important: There will be no transport to or from the UC Factory Lab. Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the workshop location.

Workshop 2 - Fine-tuning LLMs 101

Instructor: Daniel Voigt Godoy

Description:

In this short workshop, you’ll get to fine-tune a language model on a custom dataset. We’ll cover the main challenges and the building blocks of the fine-tuning procedure: model quantization, parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) and low-rank adapters (LoRA), chat templates and dataset formatting, and training arguments such as gradient checkpointing, gradient accumulation, sequence length, and optimizers. The workshop will be conducted using Google Colab, together with BitsAndBytes and several Hugging Face libraries, including PEFT, Datasets, and Transformers.

Location: Room Aqua (Quinta das Lágrimas Hotel).
Important: Participants only need a Google account to access Google Colab. No software installation or prior setup is required.
