Susana Vieira is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal, and a Senior Researcher with the Intelligent Systems Center of IDMEC and LAETA. She received the Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from IST, University of Lisbon, in 2010. She was a Visiting Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, USA, and a Visiting Researcher with the Clinical Informatics Division of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA, USA, and previously a Visiting Professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands, in Computational Intelligence. She serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence and is a member of the IEEE Fuzzy Systems Technical Committee. She has authored or coauthored more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, two edited books, 13 book chapters, and more than 90 international conference papers. Her research interests include computational intelligence, artificial intelligence, machine learning, optimization and metaheuristics, intelligent automation, control, smart industry, and data-driven decision support systems. She is a member of IEEE, the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, IEEE Women in Engineering and IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society.
